What happened to the St. Paul Triathlon????

I have had many people ask me why the St. Paul Triathlon isn’t on our 2017 schedule.  2017 would have been the 12th annual.  I did a quick search as to how many people participated in this event over the years and the number came up to about 3500.  I’m glad to say that the event isn’t going away but just taking a year off as the City of St. Paul and the Metropolitan Council does a major repair to the sewer pipes around Lake Phalen and some more much needed repair to Wheelock Parkway.  Stacy, from St. Paul Parks, had given me a heads up on this project last year.  The area where we usually put to transition area is going to be completed torn up (if fact I believe they have already started on the project).  We looked at different options as to where we could exit out of the swim and onto the bike course but always came up empty.

Stacy has kept the triathlon in the 2018 park schedule so we plan to be back then (thanks Stacy!!).  We look forward to seeing you at the 12th Annual St. Paul Triathlon in 2018 – if not before.
Thanks.
Randy

FrontRunner would like to wish everyone running in TCM events this next weekend the best of luck.  The weather forecast looks great!

Square Lake Triathlon is Saturday, September 10

The first triathlon FrontRunner ever organized was the Square Lake Triathlon.  In 2000, 2 local triathletes, Mo and Suzanne Mouw, came to me because they were training for the big triathlon on Kona.  The Kona event was in October and at that time, the last Minnesota triathlon was the Turtleman Triathlon, which was in early August.  That was also back in the days when there were less that a 10 triathlons in the entire Midwest all summer.  We were the local event guys, having organized a number of running events.  We didn’t know anything about putting on a multisport event but Mo and Suzanne promised they would educate me along the way.
I look back at it now and realize the impact Mo and Suzanne’s request had on my life.  Thanks Mo and Suzanne!!  Since that original triathlon, FrontRunner has organized hundreds of multisport events and have introduced tens of thousands to the sport.  Square Lake Triathlon remains today as one of the “Best triathlons in the Midwest” because of the clean lake, great roads for biking and the country style beautiful run.
This year’s Square Lake Triathlon is Saturday, September 10 at Square Lake Park, north of Stillwater.  You can find additional information at the Square Lake webpage.
I hope to see you there!
